An egress window is an acceptable exit opening. It is required to have a minimum of 3.77 square feet of opening with 15 inches both ways. Awning windows do not meet egress requirements. Sliders and casement windows are egress eligible.
Where are egress windows required?
Egress windows are required in every bedroom on any floor and in basements with habitable space. If you are building a new home, the code requires that you put an egress window in each bedroom. It also requires an egress window in the basement if habitable rooms will be finished in the basement.
